Three extreme examples of the culture and art of Lapland. The Snow Show is an international art exhibition in the cities of Kemi and Rovaniemi in winter 2004. Santa Claus, in Finnish joulupukki, originates from Korvatunturi mountain in Finnish Lapland. Kalervo Palsa (1947 - 1987) was a painter born in Kittilä, Lapland. The writer is a painter and free-lance art critic based in Rovaniemi. In his opinion, the local culture should be supported more actively; for example, no artists from Lapland did participate The Snow Show. |
