The purpose of this thesis was to explore the caregiver's experiences with the contents of the short-term period, the effects of the short-term period on the functioning of the memory loss diseaced, and the flow of information between the caregiver and the interval unit. The goal of the work was to produce information for the potential development of interval therapy. The subscriber to the thesis was the city of Rauma, Well-Being Activities/Marttilanmäki Short-Term Care Unit. In the thesis, six caregivers of Marttilanmäki's interval clients were interviewed. Interviews were conducted by telephone (n=5) and written queries (n=1). The data was analysed in accordance with the principles of data-based content analysis. Based on the interviews, it was difficult to get a direct answer to our research questions, but the opinions of caregivers were important and created an understanding of the caregiver's work and how they feel. The caregivers felt that going to the interval period was uncomfortable and they didn’t get a clear picture of it’s contents. Every caregiver felt that there has been changes in the health and abilities of the memory sick over the past year, but the impact of the interval period on this was difficult to evaluate. Based on the experiences of the caregivers, we were able to create concrete development proposals for the Marttilanmäki interval unit. Although caregivers did not experience the interval period directly affecting the ability of a memory sick, they felt that it had at least sustaining effects as well as the added value of foster care was very important for their own well being. The subject of further investigation could process the well-being of caregivers and if the support services in their use are sufficient. Based on the results, the subject of further development could be the things relevant to monitoring and information flow and informing on ancillary services. The caregivers expectations of the short-term care period’s content did not fully reflect reality. Certainly, through regularly sent customer satisfaction surveys for the caregivers, it would be possible to obtain precious information for further development of the interval unit.
