The goal of this thesis was to study and determine mill trajectory and filling degree of Boliden Harjavalta Oy:s slag concentration plants primary grinding mill to improve the duration of mill liners and to make milling more efficient. Purpose of the slag concentration plant is to improve smelters overall copper recovery by producing slag concentrate from flash smelting furnaces slag. This concentrate is returned to smelter. Mill lining has significant impact on expences by lining material, labor costs and production losses. Efficient slag grinding may improve capacity. In theoretical part of the thesis the processes of smelter and slag concentration plant are presented and dealt with theory of milling and concentrating. The experimental part of the thesis looks in to measuring filling degree with crash stop method and other process measurements and sampling which are needed in mill trajectory simulation. The simulation was done with simulation program by Metso. Filling degree proved to be approximately 29 % and based on trajectory simulation material does not seem to hit mill lining. However, looking at the speed of the grinding media it seems that grinding efficiency may not be optimal. Also the results do not give a precise ore comprehensive results for overall grinding and mill performance. For better accuracy and coverage more measurements are needed. For this it would be recommended to use an online filling degree measurement that does not require stopping the production.

Suurimpaan ongelmaan eli myllyn raskaiden osien siirtelyyn suunniteltiin ratkaisuksi renkailla kulkeva kaksiakselinen siirtovaunu, jota liikutellaan trukin avulla. Myllyn osien massan perusteella laadittiin siirtovaunun suunnitelma lujuuslaskelmineen ja piirustuksineen.

Venator P&A Finland produces titanium dioxide with sulphate process. Produced titanium dioxide goes mainly to export and it is used mainly as raw material or additive in different industrial branches. The micro crystal UV Titan M-series products are used in cosmetic and pharmacy industry as active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) so the validation of the process is compulsory according to ICHQ7 standard which con-cerns the manufacturing of API products. The meaning of this work was to verify, in other words validate, the functioning of UV Titan jet milling process phase. The process phase validation means that certain process phase has been able to produce homogenous results that has passed predetermined specifications as documented. The verification was executed by measuring jet mill´s feed and output U/V*100 values by using the TSM method. At the same time some U/V*100 values and some specifications concerned the jet milling of certain products were modified by using history data to meet the current practice. The deflection was registered in the validation by FDA in the year of 2014 and the consequent of the validation was that the last two process phases had to be validated. Jet milling was the other one and the other was packing. The validation was supposed to concern all UV products but accord-ing to the current stage of the plant it´s impossible. The validation was performed to two different UV Titan products. The validation of products in question, M290 and M262, worked well and it can be pointed out that jet milling works as expected.
