Opinnäytetyö tehtiin toiminnallisena toimeksiantona Ajatec Protoyping Oy:lle. Työtä varten luotiin testigeometria, jonka pinnankarheuden muutoksia tutkittiin. Geometria tulostettiin osana yrityksen normaalia tuotantoprosessia. Geometria ajettiin kolmessa eri rakennusasennossa. Osat nimettiin yksilöidysti. Kaikkien osien pinnankarheus mitattiin kolmesta eri kohdasta eri suuntiin. Mittauslaitteistona toimi Mitutoyo:n SJ-500-pinnankarheuslaite. Mittaustulokset käytiin osakohtaisesti läpi ja mittaustulokset analysoitiin. Tulokset vahvistivat kiistattomasti osien pinnankarheusarvojen paranemisen. Tulokset osoittivat automatiikan lisäävät jälkikäsittelyprosessin tehokkuutta ja parantavan tulosteiden laatua.

Emballator Oy wanted to study how they could improve the existing quality control equipment in the manufacture of can covers. A color machine vision camera at their company has proven problematic when a batch of metal changes. Because of the color changes it makes difficult to inspect the product and the system may reject flawless products. The machine operator must program the color of the production batch to the system, so that it corresponds proper color scheme to avoid unnecessary rejections. This action slows down and complicates the production. Project work was done for Emballator Oy at the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences by Robotics Academy. The study consisted of various options to solve the problem. The project group found out that a grayscale image and proper lighting provide reliable and reproducible photos of defective and intact products. By teaching the camera system software with proper tools, it was possible to look for scratches, dents, or broken sealing on the edge of the cover. In this thesis the existing camera system was modified, a new camera was added, and different lightning configurations were analyzed. The goal was to find out, if it is possible to get the desired result simply by changing the camera. Based on test results, the company's machine vision system needs to be completely renewed along with the lighting, because the old lighting configuration does not work with the grayscale camera.

The purpose of the thesis was to study the calibration process of the company's user coordinate systems and to find the factors that make the definition of user coordinate systems to support offline programming. First section of the thesis focuses theoretically on industrial robotics, coordinate systems used in industrial robotics and the offline programming. The research work was started by getting on touch with the company's current calibration method by performing the definition of a user coordinate system and testing it with a training robot. In the development work, the company's employees were utilized, to find the alternative calibration methods for examination. During the development work, in-house meetings were held to compare alternative methods and to identify things for improvement in the current method. As a result of the thesis, an instruction document for user coordinate system design was compiled for the company's mechanical designers. With the help of the document it is possible to take into account the features required for user coordinate systems in the design of the systems. In addition, a storage solution was developed to keep the calibration equipment stored at the customer's facility.
